The historic building at 107 N. 9th Street on Adel's town square was built in 1881.  The building was initially a bank (Adel State Bank) operated by Samuel Leach, great grandfather of Jim Leach, a member of the House of Representatives from Iowa.  On the second floor was the office of lawyer George Clarke.

In 1895 the bank was robbed.  As Clarke came down the stairs, the robber aimed a gun at him and pulled the trigger.  However, the gun misfired, thereby sparing the life of Clarke who went on to serve as Iowa lieutenant governor for four years and governor from 1913-1917.

Since that time, the building has been a retail location for clothing, shoes, antiques and gifts.  The Cameo Rose Collection opened in 2001.
